About Orange Oil Termite Control and
D-limonene Based Products
Orange oil products contain the active ingredient d-limonene. D-limonene is extracted from the rinds of oranges, and it’s the same chemical found in many household products. Due to d-limonene’s low toxicity, it has become the preferred termite control method for many home owners and industries. Orange oil is also used in the manufacturing of resins, cleaning compounds, and as a fragrance additive in many products.
Get an Honest Opinion
Trained licensed inspectors can determine the extent of your infestation and give you an honest evaluation of how effective a "no move out" termite control process will be for your home or structure. D-limonene based termite and pest control products are not considered an alternative to tenting as the two processes are completely different and offer different pros and cons. Ask your termite inspector to explain the pros and cons of all termite treatment options so that you can make an educated decision when selecting your control method. Every property is unique and you need an honest evalutation of your specific situtation prior to treatment. No infestation is the same and no single treatment method can handle every type of termite infestation.
Advantages of "No Move Out" Termite Control
- Of course, no moving out overnight during the treatment.
- No need to remove plants or board pets.
- No bagging of food or medicine.
- No walking on the roof.
Treatment Methods
D-limonene can be used to treat most areas of a structure. Areas once considered inaccessible become visible through the use of fiber optic scopes. When there is a reason to believe termite infestation extends into inaccessible areas such as wall voids, a small hole can be made to look inside.
Once the extent of the termite infestations is known, treatments can be made to control the termites. Once injected into the termite galleries, the d-limonene kills termites and their eggs. Termites not directly hit with the product will die if they eat any wood recently treated.
Because d-limonene based products will biodegrade in a short time, some recommend using a low toxic residual chemical like Bora-Care® for long lasting protection.
