Is Orange Oil the only way to go?

There is no one treatment that is right for every infestation. Orange oil termite control is an effective method of treatment but that is not to say that traditional treatments and fumigation are no longer valid options, or that they that should be discarded. Only tent fumigation can guarantee complete drywood termite eradication of an entire structure at once.

Here’s why: 90-95% of a buildings wood framing is covered by drywall, plaster, flooring, insulation, paint, roofing, stucco and so on. So localized treatment with orange oil will only control the infestation in the areas where and inspector can identify a problem and treat. Termites spread by swarming (flying) and can land in the most secluded places in a structure to begin a new infestation, if you can’t get to that area for a thorough inspection then you will have no knowledge of the need for treatment in that area.

So the question comes back, does every house need to be fumigated? The answer is "no". It depends on the areas of infestation, level of infestations, size and age of the colonies, type of termites you have, and whether or not your going to be satisfied with the idea of controlling your home or structures termite infestations or you want them completely eradicated from the structure all at once.

What are the other treatment options to consider?

Orange Oil Termite Control

Bora-Care®

Formulated with a concern for the environment, Bora-Care is used for the interior and exterior control of Subterranean termites, Drywood termites, Formosan termites, wood destroying beetles and decay fungi. Perfect for termite remedial and pretreatments, Bora-Care eliminates the wood as a food source for pests. Over ten years of efficacy studies prove wood destroying organisms cannot develop resistance against Bora-Care.

Bora-Care is accepted by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development as a primary tool against termites in new home construction. It’s specifically listed by the International Building Codes as a suitable alternative to soil treatments. Nisus also offers a 12-year residential pretreatment warranty to the professional pest control industry.

Bora-Care is a borate compound and contains the basic elements of boron and oxygen. Borate ores are mined from mineral deposits found in the earth. These mines can be found in western North America, South America and Asia. Borate compounds help create products such as ceramic tiles, fertilizers, glass, detergents, soaps, cosmetics, medicines and pest control products.

Termidor®

Termidor is used for soil treatments to eliminate and protect against Subterranean termites. Termidor is made from a revolutionary new nonrepellent or "undetectable" chemical technology treatment. That means termites cannot see, smell, taste or avoid Termidor. Instead they contact, ingest, and share it with their nestmates.

This is in sharp contrast to older liquid termite controls, which rely on repellent barriers that termites can find breaks in or avoid completely. After Termidor is applied, termites that contact it, transfer it to every other termite in the colony in a unique process called the "Transfer Effect". And because Termidor s engineered to be slow-acting, termites have ample time to spread it throughout their entire termite population. Termites must come in contact with orange oil or digest recently treated wood to be eliminated.

With Termidor, termites will spread the chemical around the colonies deep into areas that are not even treated. Termidor has a long lasting residual to keep protecting for years to come while orange oil will evaporate within a short time.

Orange Oil Termites

Premise®

Premise is designed to be a non-repellent. Termites can not taste or smell the chemical and will be unable to avoid it. Other treatments that can be smelled by termites usually cause them to avoid, and eventually find their way around the treated areas. Premise can be used with a foaming agent which expands to fill the voids in your walls. Because termites transfer it back to the colony, you can control a termite infestation more efficiently than with kill on contact methods.

Orange Oil Termite Control

Tent Fumigation with Vikane®

Fumigation is the process of removing harmful wood destroying organisms in a structure which dwell in an area that is inaccessible to even a professional termite inspector. In these inaccessible areas you often have termites and beetles which feed on the wood, and in most cases do so undetected. Fumigation treatment reaches into every corner and pocket in the structure and kills the harmful wood destroying organisms.

What about Safety?
